1 Office Features
Most offices have the following features.
・Colleagues in the office communicate with each other.
・Office colleagues influence each other.
・The relationships among office colleagues are solid and stable.
・A system for work allocation and decision making exists to accomplish the objectives of the organization.
・There is an office culture which is unique to each organization.
2 The Model Office Environment
Supervisors must strive to create a healthy work environment. A good atmosphere among staff is essential if they are to effectively accomplish the organizational objectives. The model office may be described as follows.
・A bright atmosphere exists where each employee has good relations with other members of staff.
・Staff speak frankly with each other and actively exchanges information.
・Every member of staff works earnestly and interested in their job.
・Staff challenge new ideas and are motivated to improve the quality of their work.
・Every member of staff is eager to develop themselves.
・There is a sense of unity and teamwork within the office.
3 Efforts by Supervisors and Staff
Supervisors and staff must take the following steps if they are to create and maintain a good office environment. The act of employing these methods will in itself result in good teamwork.
(Supervisors)
・Speak frankly and keep an open mind.
・Respect staff initiatives in work.
・Share as much work related information as possible with staff.
・Try to avoid any emotional conflict arising from a difference in opinions.
・Develop your own abilities and help staff develop theirs.
(Staff)
・Give your full effort to each job that you perform. Make every effort to meet public expectations and win the confidence of the people.
・Ensure that your actions will have a good influence on junior staff or other colleagues in the office.
・If you notice any detrimental practices in the office, consult your supervisor to take corrective measures.
