3-7 Persuasion

In the performance of their duties, supervisors encounter a variety of situations. They sometimes need the other person's understanding and acceptance in order to accomplish their task. When supervisors have difficulty in gaining this acceptance, it may be helpful to ask assistance from their manager or boss but it is also essential for them to develop techniques of persuasion. If they easily give up when trying to persuade others over differences in opinions, they will not be able to accomplish good work.

3-9 Performance Appraisal

One of the duties of managers is to appraise the performance of their employees. A direct supervisor is best situated to evaluate the work performance of their staff since they may observe closely how they are working and their work results are submitted to them. There are some supervisors, however, who hesitate to evaluate their employees correctly thinking that it is extremely difficult to judge other people and they don't want to be disliked by their employees. Performance appraisal is extremely difficult and may bring conflict between supervisors and their employees. That is not an excuse, however, for not doing appropriate performance appraisals.
