A ProporsaI to Designing Non‐uniform Thickness Plating
Yukio KANEKO
Abstract
An effective method to get a minimum weight of stiffned panels is to minimize the thickness of plating with stiffeners spaced closely as possible. However some limits seem to exist with equal‐thick plating as far. Then the author propose here a design method of non uniformly thick plating in order to get lighter panels. One example is presented for strips with thicker clamped‐ends(haunched)under uniform pressure which shows ab 30% of weight‐saving compared with uniform‐thick plating of same material. The guidance for dimensions of plating can be shown as follows.
