A separate ship_material concept is not required from the Part 45 viewpoint. Each part, such as a plate, frame, etc. can have associated material properties. (This will increase the volume of data.) In using Part 45, the data environment is required.

Reference Path Generator (Discussion with Jim Kendrick, ITI)

Problems encountered with RPG while interpreting AP218 were discussed with Jim Kendrick of ITI (in the absence of Santhanu Dhar) and means to rectify them were requested. (Priority: H-High, M-Medium, S-Small)

● The RPG tool could not be used as:

● M mapping templates cannot be used

● H no dynamic registration of new types (AP specific AIM subtypes): Tool kit is based on NIST. Dynamic registration may be possible by adding labels.

。? unstable (crashed quite often); it is designed to give errors rather than crash. This is to be checked further. Stability may be strongly related to dynamic registration.

● Further desirable improvements on RPG are:

● M function to import ARM EXPRESS

● H function to check existing mapping tables

● L graphical visualisation of mappings (EXPRESS-I)

● H support the AIM generation

Error message, validation, etc. will be solved with high priority for immediate use to 216. But a comprehensive modification is advisable for better use to the APs but it may take more time.

About US$ 2000 is available from NIDDESC to do the immediate modification. About 2-3 months may take to rectify the problems due to manpower shortage.

PLIB/Parametrics: Jim Mays

CTC demonstrated using PLIB in transporting modules.

3D geometry in catalogue? Yet to be investigated. Main issue was units. How to represent the actual size? More information is required to get a clear view of the model.

Simple generators as used in CAD systems for generating actual models from parametric values may solve the problem. At present photographs are used in catalogues.

Relationship between parametrics and Parts Library. At present nothing is done on that.

ISO13584 for catalogue and libraries of standard parts. 4 services. 3rd one of interest to most APs part. Ship (If using 3rd one we automatically use first two). Others using all 3 include 212, 214, 221 and 227. Will be a document on SOLIS in QC area and describes interpretation guidelines for APs. It depends upon new version of P41. Question raised about PLIB use with previously interpreted APs. Apparently, such APs could be reverse engineered, but in practice would be difficult. Examples shown from SCM, AP212, and 214 although modelling styles are different (will come out in the wash).
