MINUTES OF IEC TC 18 WG24(HOUSTON)

A meeting of lEC TC18 WG24 was held on October 12, 1998 at 1330 in Houston, TX.

1 Approval of Agenda - The agenda of the meeting was approved without comment.

2 Membership - In addition to the Convener (Mr.Landman, US), present at the meeting was a delegate from Germany (Mr.Kallbach). A quorum was not reached.

3 Kista Meeting - The document found in 3.1 were reviewed without comment.

3.1 Revision of Documents: 92-503

4 Current Work - In general, the comments of the Convener found in the documents of 4.1 were accepted with little or no modification. However, two issues remain.

The first issue concerns the raising of the voltage limit currently established for 60092-503 from 15kv to 45kv. It has been noted by the Convener that the US, UK, JA, NL, CN and GR do not support this proposal. In general, it is the opinion of these countries that the practical generating voltage on ships and mobile offshore drilling units is limited to 15kv. It is the experience of the participants that other than shore supplied power, they were unaware of any generation on shipboard above 15kv. Due to the lack of support of the proposal to raise the voltage range of this document, it is recommended by the Convener that the Norway "proposal" be withdraw.

The second issue is in regard to the elimination of 60092-503 and the moving of the document's requirements to other documents in 60092, as applicable. The Convener notes that this is contradictory to the work being considered by WG23, where the requirements of many documents are being brought into one document.

The Convener notes support of this proposal by the UK and GR and opposition by the US, CN and JA. It is the Convener's recommendation that the document not be stricken.

4.1 Document reviewed: 18/835/NWP

5 Proposal for Future Work - It is the recommendation of the Convener that the work of the Working Group be made into a CDV.

6 Future Working Arrangements - All future work will continue as previous, that is, by correspondence.
