Plenary Meeting in Houston 1998-10-14/16

 

Working Group 4 Report to TC 18

 

1 Summary

Since the meeting in Kista, the Working Group gas conducted its activities by correspondence. A number of work items have been progressed and discussed further at the meeting on 12 October 1998 in Houston. Conclusions are discussed below.

 

2 Membership

2.1 The new IACS observer to IEC, Mr Musteykis, will be included in future working group activities and will provide a point of liaison with IACS.

 

2.2 Mr Miante had left the group but the Mr Landman continued to take part on behalf of the US.

 

2.3 Mr Sharman had joined the Working Group in his capacity as IEC Observer at IMO.

 

3. Task

3.1 Following agreement at Kista, the Task had been amended to include consideration of draft IMO papers, and to contribute to the work of IMO, through the Chairman and Secretary. The revised task has been accepted by National Committees and is recorded in 18/829/INF.

 

3.2 Mr Martinsen continues to have difficulty receiving IMO papers for reveiw. The Chirman and Secretary of TC18 are requested to make further representations to Central Office and IMO to ensure that papers are received both by Mr Martinsen and by Mr Sharman.

 

4 SOLAS Amendments to II-1/41

4.1 The Working Group has developed New Work Proposals to incorporate the SOLAS Amendments within IEC 92-201. The proposal is included at Annex A.

 

4.2 The SOLAS Amendments introduce a requirement to maintain or immediately restore power to essential services following failure of a main generator; to protect generators by load shedding; and a requirement for a circuit breaker or other approved means for subdividing the main switchboard.

 

4.3 The New Work Proposal will be submitted in the appropriate format.
