1) Purpose of the meeting

Generally, it would be of great advantage if harmonization to a certain, realistic, extent could be achieved in the respective electrial standards (mainly on a.c. installations), e.g. concerning vocabulary and definitions.

The principal purpose of IEC/TC 18 (/WG 4 and WG 22) to initiate this meeting, however, was to ascertain whether a joint standard in the field of electrical systems for small craft and other vessels could be elaborated. See decision under 3) below.

2) IEC/TC 18 CDV on Electrical installations for pleasure craft less than 50 m Lh

It was agreed to add the lower limit of 24 m Lh to the Committee Draft of Vote, CDV, IEC 92-5XX,

elaborated by IEC/TC 18WG 22 on electrical installations for pleasure craft less than 50 m Lh.

3) General agreement on current and future work of mutual interest

With respect to the urgency of the mandated small craft standards [now revised by TC 188/WG 10 and currently at the stage of ISO/FDIS 10133 and DIS 13297. Status changed:: Both drafts are being subjected to repeat parallel DIS/prEN enquiry. July 1997)] to support the Recreational Craft Directive (RCD), it was agreed that a joint standard should not be elaborated now but later On. For this purpose, a joint working group should be created to start develop such as standard as soon as possible after public-ation of both standards so as to have them accomplished at least in conjunction with their five-year review.

As a consequence, it was decided that ISO/TC 188 proceed with the current (ISO-CEN parallel) processing of the drafts on extra-low-voltage d.c. installations and a.c. single-phase installations up to 250 V for craft up to 24 m Lh, so as to have them published without unnecessary delay.

IEC/TC 18 will continue to develop a.c. and d.c. electrical system standards for craft of 24 m and greater, and also for 3-phase a.c. installations in all craft, including those below 24 m Lh. They will take into account the requirements of the ISO standards so as not to create any conflict in this respect.

The drafts concerned will thus be exchanged for review by the two committees.

Conclusively, it should be mentioned that the meeting was quite fruitful and held on good speaking terms, which will certainly pave the way for a smooth future cooperation so as to gain mutual benefits.
