ABOUT THE SCOPE OF ISO/TC 8/SC 10 (COMPUTER APPLICATIONS)
Scope: Standardization in thc field of computer applications in shipbuilding and the operation of ships.
The chairman Mr. Staffan Robertsson (Norway) is still having problems relating to the scope of SC 10. Most of the aspects concerning to the physical domain of computer applications such as hardware, communication, and interfaces are handled by various IEC committees, whereas most of the aspects relating to the information to be communicated is handled by ISO/TC 184/SC 4. Generally, the current standards allocated to SC 10 are either dealing with general ship definitions and nomenclature or out-dated geometry and topology definitions. SC 10 wishes to address this issue more thoroughly and present its findings for discussion at the AG meeting in October 1998 in UK.
