Procedure for the determination of the performance

　

1. The MRC is defined for USAF targets. It is a function of the spatial frequency (r) and depends on the level (see fig. 1).

2. The MRC function must be transformed into three new functions, which are:

a. the Minimum Required Contrast as a function of the distance for detection (R_ret)

b. the Minimum Required Contrast as a function of the distance for recognition (R_rec)

c. the Minimum Required Contrast as a function of the distance for identification (R_id)
