4. Participating nations further agree to state ranges in the following form:

a. Nominal static detection range, in kilometres [km].

b. Nominal static recognition range, in kilometres [km].

C. Nominal static identification range, in kilometres [km].

The scene luminance level, in cd/m2, and the relevant field of view of the system, in degrees [o] or milliradians (mrad) shall be stated for each range.

NOTE 1: The operational definitions of detection, recognition and identification can be found in the related documents.

NOTE 2: Depending upon the type of system only one or two of the three specified ranges might be appropriate.

DETERMINATION OF THE NOMINAL STATIC RANGE PERFORMANCE

5. The procedure needed for the calculation of the nominal static range performance is included in Annex A. The detailed parameters for the calculation are specified in para.6.

DETAILED PARAMETERS

6. The nominal static range for image intensifier systems (IIS) will be determined from the measured or calculated Minimum Resolvable Contrast (MRC) and under the following conditions (see also Annex A):

- targetsize: 2.3 x 2.3 m;

- Co = initial contrast;

- contrast Co: 0.25 (2nid generation IIS) or 0.4(3rd generation IIS).

- atmospheric transmission, characterized within the relevant spectral ranges by:

τ(R) = e-σ.R

with

R = distance in km,

σ = 0,4 km-1 (visibility 〜 7 ,5 km);

luminance level:3.2×10-6 cd/m2 , 3.2×10-5 cd/m2 and 3.2×10-4 cd/m2 with a radiant source of 2856 ± 50K colourtemperature;

- resolution criteria, according to a 50% probability:

detection : 1 line pair /target

recognition : 3 line pairs/target

identification : 6 line pairs/target.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE AGREEMENT

7. This STANAG is implemented when a nation has issued instructions that the nominal static range performance of image intensifer systems will be calculated in accordance with this STANAG.
