(6) Track control systems
The item of the subject systems is under the joint work of IEC/TC80 and ISO/TC 8/SC 6, and they are now deliberating on the working draft (WD).
So far, we experienced some inappropriateness in the system of communicating information from the IEC/TC80 side to the SC 6 side. However, the above WD has now been sent from the IEC/TC80 side to US. Therefore, we circulated the WD to SC 6 members, and considered the content. In addition to this, an SC 6 representative attended the IEC/TC80WG meeting (1998-09-28/30, Hamburg).
(7) Liaison with CEN/TC300
We, the SC 6 secretariat, had information tips; by way of e-mails exchanged between Mr. Abram (ISO/CS), Capt. Piersall (ISO/T 8 chairman) and Mr. T. Nathalie (CEN), on "the communication on having adopted a resolution that the items under the work of ISO/TC 8 are converted to the items of CEN/TC300 (Resolution 78/1998), at the CEN/TC300 Lisbon meeting held in June this year".
Among these items, there exist some which are under deliberation by SC 6, such as DIS/613 (magnetic compasses, binnacles and azimuth reading devices- Class B), and DIS/11674 (Heading control systems), and other items being dealt with by other TC 8/SC.
Japan is holding the office of the SC 6 secretariat, whilst it is not a member country of EC. This renders Japan incapable of getting hold of information on whether or not the items (other than DIS 613 and DIS 11674) belonging to the SC 6' s scope are among "CEN/TC 300's work items" and/or "EC-standards-to-be".
Surely, it does not stand to mason that the SC 6 secretariat has no means of having such information.
Because of this, the SC 6 secretariat requests that the CEN/TC300 secretariat communicate to the ISO/TC 8 secretariat and/or SC secretariats within ISO/TC 8, the progress of work, schedule, etc. regarding the items or matters dealt with as "CEN/TC300' s work items" and/or "EC-standards-to-be", which are among ISO/TC 8's work items.
