2. The head referee shall stop the match immediately when kinjite are used in a match.
Article 19
The athlete take their mark during the “tachiai” by placing one hand on the dohyo in a squatting and poised state. They then take the other elbow off the knee, and touching the hand to the dohyo, they charge on another at the prompt, “hakkeyoi”, called out by the gyoji.
2. Hands shall be placed on or below the “shikrisen” or starting lines.
3. A “tachiai” where both hands momentarily touch the dohyo is not recognized.
4. When a “tachiai” is incorrectly carried out, the gyoji shall call out, “matta” (wait), and the “tachiai” shall be done over again.
Article 20
When the head referee observes an incorrect “tachiai”, he shall raise his right hand immediately, irrespective of the gyoji's call out prompt, and stop the match.
2. In the case of the above, the “tachiai” is repeated immediately.
3. The decision on whether a “tachiai” was correctly or incorrectly carried out shall be left to the judgment of the head referee.
Article 21
If a match continues for five minutes and there is no winner, it is stopped and a rematch is carried out.
2. At the signal of the sub-referee keeping the time, the head referee shall instruct the gyoji to stop the match.
Article 22
When the head referee deems a sub-referee to be unqualified, he shall report the individual and the matter shall be handled by the chairman of the competition committee.
