Article 16
If the gyoji mistakenly calls out “Shobu atta” (the match is won)” during the match, the head and sub-referees shall lodge an objection and a rematch (tori naoshi) shall be called following deliberations.
Article 17
An athlete may be refereed as the loser in a match according to deliberations by the referees, if the following apply.
(1) If it has been determined that the athlete is no longer able to continue in the match due to injury, etc.
(2) If the athlete uses “kinjite” (prohibited moves) or if it has been determined that he has used such moves.
(3) If the athlete arbitrarily ends a match.
(4) If a referee has determined the athlete to be deliberately staying in the poised position too long.
(5) If the athlete does not abide by a referee's instructions.
(6) If the “maebukuro” of a mawashi (the front strip of loincloth that covers the genitals) becomes loosened during the match.
(7) If the athlete does not appear in dohyo-damari (waiting area) after being called twice by the announcer.
Article 18
The following moves are prohibited.
(1) Punching an opponent with a fist
(2) Kicking an opponent in the chest or abdominal area
(3) Hitting or poking an opponent in vital areas such as the eyes or solar plexus with hands or fingers
(4) Pulling an opponent's hair
(5) Grabbing an opponent's throat
(6) Grabbing at the “maebukuro” of an opponent's mawashi or sticking a finger in through the side of the “maebukuro”
(7) Bending back one or two fingers of an opponent
