New Ferry OCEAN SOUTH in Regular Service between Tokyo and Kitakyusyu
OCEAN SOUTH, a new 11,200- G/T passenger ferry for domestic service, was delivered to Maritime Credit Corporation and Ocean Tokyu Ferry Co., Ltd. by from Onomichi Dockyard in September 1996.
It now makes a regular daily service between Tokyo, Tokushima, Kita-kyushu with other three sister ships.
OCEAN SOUTH's design was based on the concept of "Keeping the voyage schedule". It has a service speed of 21.5 knots enough to serve as a TRAILER LINER.
The vessel's hull form offers extremely low wave-making and resistance.
This enable it to ride out rough waters on the route between Tokyo and Kyushu, where the vessel is exposed to strong winds and high waves during the winter and during the typhoon season in late summer.
A very fine twin screw hull form can achieve a trial speed in excess of 25.6 knots, and a service speed of 21.5 knots is designed with 30% sea-margine.
A fully equipped fin stabilizer with a heel control system ensures a comfortable ride for passengers.
Cabins are arranged at sea-side generally with a capacity of 148 passengers, and many public rooms namely Ocean Hall, Ocean Plaza which is self-service restaurant, Sky Room, snack-corner, TV-corner, game-corner, observation bath room, etc. are arranged to enable passengers to enjoy a pleasant cruise.
Accommodations are rationally arranged in vertically fashion, to protect passenger from noise.
OCEAN SOUTH will greatly contribute to the further expansion of cargo transportation between Tokyo and Kyushu.
