SUZURAN and SUISEN, 17,345GT Fast Luxury Passenger Car Ferries
FERRY SUZURAN and FERRY SUISEN, two 17,345GT fast luxury passenger car ferries, were built by lshikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. and delivered to Shin Nihonkai Ferry Co., Ltd. in May 1996.
The absolute requirement was the service speed more than 29 knots, which enables the ferries 2 days round operation for Tsuruga- Otaru route, 550 nautical miles, while previous ferries took 3 days for round operation. To satisfy the requirement, the development for hull form and propulsion by tank tests and CAD/CAE technology was conducted. As the result, the ferries achived 29.4 knots, satisfying aspects of deadweight of 5,440 tons, safety, effective operation and passenger comfort.
These ferries offer 4 grades of passenger cabins : 4 suites, 20 deluxe rooms, 65 first-class rooms, and 12 second-class rooms. Suites, deluxe rooms and first-class cabins are equipped with individually adjustable air-conditioning.
The ferries' public spaces such as the grill, restaurant, promenade, game room, play room for children, video theater and sauna are arranged to maximize passenger comfort.
