Passenger and Vehicles Ferry RAINBOW BELL
RAINBOW BELL, large scale passenger/vehicle ferry with carrying capacity of 154 trailers/trucks, 77 cars and 350 passengers, was designed and built at the Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and delivered on March 28th 1996 to the Owner, Kyuetsu Ferry Co., Ltd.
The ship is now in regular service on the new route between Hakata (Fukuoka pref.) and Naoetsu (Niigata pref.).
Two medium speed diesel engines, each with an output of 23,100PS, produce a service speed of 24.9 knots.
Two highly skewed propellers contribute to reducing propeller surface force.
The ship is also equipped with two ruddurs, two bow thrusters and a stern thruster, which enable berthing and unberthing without using tug boats.
Three outboard rampways and three inboard rampways are arranged for smooth loading and unloading.
Passengers enjoy a pleasant atmosphere and comfortable voyage in a variety of cabin types and public spaces such as a restaurant, cafeterrace, an observation saloon, observation bath rooms with sauna, marine theater, karaoke rooms and amusement facilities.
A pair of fin stabilizer reduces rolling, and two escalators and an elevator are provided.
Measures to reduce the noise and vibration include increasing the number or thickness of hull structural membersand the adoption of floating floors for the accommodation spaces.
With regard to stability, fire protection, etc., the ship is applied to SOLAS and except life saving appliance and radio equipment in addition to the relevant regulations and NK rules.
