Woodchip Carrier DAIO COPIHUE Achieves High Cargo Handling Efficiency
The 3.6 million-ft3 woodchip carrier DAIO COPIHUE was delivered to Trans European Shipping Inc. in May 1996 at the Mizushima Works and Shipyard of Sanoyas Hishino Meisho Corporation.
The DAIO COPIHUE is the first vessel of 3.6 million-ft3 woodchip carrier developed on the basis of Sanoyas standards 3.5 million-ft3 woodchip carrier design.
Features
1. The flush decker has six cargo holds arranged amidships and the accommodations and engine room located aft.
The frame arrangement in the cargo space is designed for maximum efficiency in woodchip loading and unloading.
2. Because of their low specific gravity, woodchips require a relatively large hold capacity. Accordingly, the hull of the DAIO COPIHUE is deeper than those of typical bulk carriers of about the same deadweight.
3. Cargo handling equipment includes a 840-t/h woodchip unloading system for efficient unloading.
4. End-folding hatch covers are chain-driven by hydraulic motors for opening and closing.
