AVALON, the First Ship of the Open Type Bulk Carrier
The 27,917-dwt open bulk carrier, AVALON was delivered to Azalea Shipping S.A. of Panama by Naikai Zosen Corporation in September, 1995.
The ship is the first ship of the open type bulk carrier series developed by Naikai Zosen Corporation.
Design Features
-The cargo space is divided into five holds with box shape configuration of double hull construction.
-The ship is equipped with electro-hydraulic and folding type wide hatch covers. The hatch cover of No. 1 is 12.60m long and 18.40m wide, those for Nos. 2, 3 and 4 are 20.8m long and 22.8m wide and No.5 is 19.2m long and 22.80m wide. Wide hatches contribute to easy operation for the loading/unloading long cargoes.
-Fixed and collapsible steel stanchions on both sides of the upper deck are used for stowing log and lumber.
