WESTERN ORION, Sixth in Oshima Super Handymax Bulk Carrier Series (47,000-dwt type)
The 47,000-dwt WESTERN ORION, the sixth vessel in a series of 47,000-dwt type Oshima Super Handymax Bulk Carriers was delivered in November 1995 to Western Bulk Shipping AS by Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
The first three vessels are operated by a Hong Kong Owner for the present. This series has proven its excellent performance, fuel economy, and cargo handling efficiency.
The WESTERN ORION has a bulbous bow, a stern bulb, a semiskewed propeller to improve propulsion efficiency and reduce hull vibrations.
The vessel is equipped with four electro-hydraulically driven deck cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 25tons and grab handling capabilities. The design allows variety of cargoes to be handled, including cement, coal, grain, ore, packaged lumber and log. The Kawasaki- MAN B & W 6S50MC main engine offers superior reliability and fuel oil consumption as well as easy operation and maintenance.
