NIKKEI EAGLE, sixth is Oshima Super Handymax Bulk Carrier

 

The 45,000-dwt NIKKEI EAGLE, the sixth ship in a seriese of Oshima Super Handymax Bulk Carriers, was delivered in August 1995 to T.S. Central Shipping Co., Ltd. by Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd..

Vessels from the first to fifth are operated by Japanese owners at the present. This series has proven its excellent performance, fuel economy, and cargo handling efficiency. The NIKKEI EAGLE has a bulbous bow, a stern bulb and a new type of propeller (PAI) to improve propulsion efficiency and reduce hull vibrations.

The vessel is equipped with four electro-hydraulically driven deck cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 25tons. The design allows a variety of cargoes to be handled, including coal, ore, bauxite, and grain.

The Diesel United-Sulzer-6RTA52 main engine offers superior reliability and fuel oil consumption as well as easy operation and maintenance.

 

PACIFIC ACADIAN: First in a Series of Double-hulled Handymax Bulk Carrier

 

The 49,000-dwt PACIFIC ACADIAN is the first in a series of double- hulled handymax bulk carrier built by Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and was delivered in September 1995 to Pacific Acadian Shipping INC.

The epoch-making features of the vessel are that this is the first double-hulled handymax bulk carrier in the world and also the first bulk carrier having ABS Safe Hull notation in the world.

The deadweight at shallow draft of 11.7m is 49,000MT, which is the biggest among the handymax bulk carriers.

The vessel is equipped with four heavy deck cranes each with a lifting capacity of 35tons, wider hatch opening, and quick deballasting capacity for quick and efficient cargo handling.

In addition, a special attention is paid in design of hull form and main engine in order to attain a higher ship's speed but less fuel consumption.
