Chemical Carriers

SUNSHINE SKY, 15,015-dwt Chemical Carrier

The SUNSHINE SKY, a 15,015- dwt chemical carrier, was constructed by Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (SSK) in September 1996 and delivered to Sintoku Panama S.A.

The ship was designed and built to carry IMO-Type ? & ? chemicals and/or petroleum products, having a well deck with a forecastle and a poop. The engine room and accommodation house are located in aft.

The 30 cargo tanks are constructed of stainless steel 316L, which are enclosed by double side and double bottom. The centerline and transverse bulkheads are corrugated type and all structural members of deck are located on upper deck.

The cargo tank bottom inclines to the ship's centerline. Such structural arrangement will be of much benefit to minimum remains of liquid and to easy tank washing.

The cargo system is capable of handling 30 kinds of different chemical and/or petroleum products with an hydraulic motor driven submersibie pump independently installed in each cargo tank. For handling "molasses" one booster pump is provided on deck.

Thermal-oil heating system is adopted for special cargoes as well as steam heating system.

For easy maneuvering in port and/or narrow seaway, an electric motor driven bow thruster with controllable pitch propeller is employed. Central cooling system is applied to the main engine and auxiliary machinery, which will make easy and economical maintenance in the machinery space.
