TAJIMA, a 260,000-dwt Double-Hull VLCC

 

TAJIMA, a 260,000-dwt double hull tanker ordered by Welmouth Proprietary Inc. of Panama, was completed at the Kure Shipyard of lshikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI) in September 1996. It is a second ship of the same size double hull VLCC series of IHI.

 

Features

 

1. The cargo handling system is divided into three groups. Cargo oil is handled by three steam turbine-driven cargo oil pumps (5,000m3/h×145mTH) with self stripping systems. In addition, a steam turbine-driven pump and a tank cleaning educator are provided for tank cleaning operation.

2. For easy maintenance and inspection of double hull water ballast tanks, four levels of walk ways formed by horizontal stringers are provided.

3. Remote controlled valves are provided on center line bulkhead in double hull water ballast tanks for gas freeing and inerting. And fixed flammable gas detecting system for double hull ballast tank is equipped.

4. A new type super long-stroke main diesel engine, DU-Sulzer 7RTA84T, is equipped for economical propulsion.

5. In addition to diesel generators, thyristor inverter shaft generator controlled in combination with exhaust gas generated turbo generator is provided.

6. Integrated bridge system, which is capable of ship's position calculating, ship's route planning, ship's route tracking, chart displaying, navigation data displaying and producing of electronics chart, is installed.

7. Class approved type emergency towing equipment, which is designed in accordance with 1994 Amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974, is provided.

8. Auxiliary boiler is equipped with rotary cup burners which enable safer operation.
