SUPER ZEARTH, the first 258,000-dwt size Double Hull VLCC
SUPER ZEARTH, a double hull tanker ordered by Garnet Enterprise Co., Ltd. of Panama, was completed at the Kure Shipyard of Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI) in September 1995. It is a first 258,000 MTDW size VLCC applied Regulation 13F of MARPOL Annex I concerning prevention of oil pollution in the event of collision or stranding. Special consideration was given to safety, reliability of structure and easy maintenance. The ship was designed by application of total structural analysis concept, and its class notation "DATA" was affixed by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai.
Features
1. Three steam turbine-driven cargo oil pumps (4,500 m3/h × 135mTH) are equipped, and an additional steam turbine-driven pump and two cargo stripping educators are provided for tank cleaning and stripping operations.
2. For easy maintenance and inspection of double hull water ballast tanks, longitudinal continuous walk way is provided at the mid- ship bilge space in addition to four levels of walk ways formed by horizontal stringers, and the tanks are coated with light color modified epoxy paint.
3. Remote controlled valves are provided on center line bulkhead in double hull water ballast tanks for gas freeing and inerting. And fixed flammable gas detecting system for double hull ballast tank is equipped.
4. A new type super long-stroke main diesel engine, DU-Sulzer 7RTA84T, is equipped for economical propulsion.
5. In addition to diesel generators, a thyristor inverter shaft generator controlled in combination with a exhaust gas generated turbo generator is provided.
