8.2.2 Vehicle and Road Accidents Status

　

Increase of number of vehicles by kind in these 20 years is shown in Fig. 8.2-2. It can be seen that the increase rate is very large and that two wheelers are the predominant mode of vehicles.

Increase of vehicle causes road congestion and road accidents. Number of total road accidents and number of persons killed by road accidents are shown in Fig. 8.2-3. In accompany with increase of vehicle, the accidents are increasing. Death rate per vehicle is 715 persons killed per 993250 vehicles, namely 7.20 persons per l0,000 vehicles (1995).
