In this chapter, major results of Baseline Studies by Consulting Engineering Services (India) Limited and of EIA Study by RITES will be summarized in the section 8.2 and 8.3, and several comments on environmental issues based on Japanese experiences will be presented in 8.4.
8.2 Major Results of Baseline / Benchmark Studies
The followings are the major results of Report on Environmental Benchmark Studies for the ELRT for Bangalore” carried out in August 1997 by Consulting Engineering Services (India) Limited on request by UBTSL.
8.2.1 Population Increase
The Bangalore's recent population increase, which will be closely related with environmental issues if any proper actions are not taken, is presented in Fig. 8.2-1. Fig. 8.2-l also shows the future population forecast. Population increase rate in Bangalore is very high.
