In addition these equipment,. and components related to PCM terminals installed in Phase 1 will be available without modification, but with additional components and cards, for all the service areas in the final stage.
7.4 Traction Power
7.4.1 Design Concept
(1) Substation
(a) Electric Power Source
Power required to operate ELRTS shall be procured. Power for operation will be supplied from independent power sources or from an electric power company.
In the former case, it is difficult to compose a network or secure high reliability as the size of the power supply system is small. Nevertheless, large investment is required despite the small capacity. Although the existing power supply network shall be improved and strengthened in the latter case, it is advantageous in terms of economy and reliability. Strengthening the power supply network for operation of ELRTS will also contribute to communities. Therefore, we propose to purchase power from an electric power company by strengthening the existing power supply network rather than relying on independent power sources.
The strengthening of the power supply network and power transmission Lines to ELRTS substations are excluded from this plan, as they are related to strengthening power sources.
(b) ELRTS Substation Plan
The primary purpose of ELRTS substations is to transform input power to low-voltage power to operate rolling stock. The characteristics of loads borne by substations are different from those of power supplied to general industry and offices, as EMUs consume a large volume of power which fluctuates every time an EMU turns on or of. In addition, power supply shall not interrupt even at mid night, as the vehicle depot are in operation. Therefore, ELRTS must secure a reliable and strong power supply.
Substations shall be located where it is easy to receive power from the commercial power network and supply power to stations, trains and vehicle depot. As the commercial power network is being improved in Bangalore, it seems it will be easy to receive power at any location along the ELRTS route.
We propose a receiving voltage of 33 or 66 kV, though this depends on the voltage of the power source. It is not recommended to receive power from 11 kV power lines, as this is too
