The communication system will be able to ensure adequate guidance or instructions for passengers even in these unusual cases. Major facilities, therefore, will be designed to operate during three hours in power facilities.

7.3.2 Signaling System Plan

(1) Preconditions for Train Operation

According to the train operation plan envisaged, trains will be operated at headways of 180 seconds in Phase I and at headways of 120 seconds in the final stage. so that the signaling system for Phase 1 must be planned to be used without modification in the following stage, even in the final stage. The block signal lengths for Phase1, therefore, will require 350 m to 400 m to keep a minimum headway of 120 seconds in consideration of deceleration performance, train length and other dimensions. This shall be reviewed during detailed design to reflect signal aspects and track conditions.

(2) CTC Network

The centralized traffic control system in Phase I covers a route length of 25.9 km, 24 stations and a vehicle depot. In the final stage of ELRT, the system will cover four lines including the one in Phase I, total route length of 99.5 kin, 87 stations and four vehicle depots, including these Phase 1.. The system will cover train operation between main lines and the arrival/departure track in the deports, but not shunting operations between these track and stabling tracks within depotst. To ensure economy and efficiency, any train operation on all the line sections must be controlled and monitored remotely at the Cenlral Control Room. Therefore, the central equipment and systems to be designed in Phase 1 at the Central Control Room will be designed to have enough capacity for software and hardware, equipping with interface units and cars to allow future system developments in the ultimate system.

(3) Interface with Communication Facilities

A LAN to transmit/receive signals for train operation among the control units and displays in the Central Control Room will be established under the signaling work. Under oommunication work, however, transmission cable and other transmission units including MODEMs will be constructed between the CTC center control units at the center and the local CTC units at stations.
