7.2 Yard and Shops
Vehicle depots shall keep deadend trains and perform a wide range of activities to maintain safe and comfortable vehicle for main line service. They are also the bases for maintenance of main line electrical and track facilities.
. Car storage
. Interior and exterior vehicle cleaning
. Daily, scheduled and unscheduled inspections
. Heavy maintenance
. Overhaul
. Wheel turning
. Storage of maintenance of way equipment e.g., track inspection equipment and ballast tanping equipment
The following four vehicle stock depots are planned.
. Yashwantpur
. Binnamangala
. Kacharakanahally
. Konankunte
In Phase 1, the Binnamangala vehicle stock depot only will be constructed.
7.2.1 Rolling Stock Inspection Plan
(1) Vehicle interior cleaning Daily
(2) Exterior car washing. As time and vehicle availability permits
(3) Daily inspection In the vehicle stabling area
(4) Scheduled Inspection 30 days
(5) Unscheduled inspection As necessary
(6) Heavy maintenance Once every 4 years
(7) Overhaul Once every 8 to 10 years
