It is suggested that 3 track maintenance depots will be located along the route for phase 1, one big depot in Binamangala Vehicle Depot and two small depots along the phase 1 track route.
Track maintenance depot in Binamangala will be equipped with major machines / equipment shown in Table 6.3-1. But other small depots will be equipped only with 2 sets of hand tie tamper, one electric generator and one set of other miscellaneous tools (such as track measuring instruments, hand drill, rail saw, track jacks).
Binamangala track maintenance depot will be in charge of operation and maintenance of track maintenance machines / equipment, execution of major track maintenance, inspection of track conditions by track master (appendix 6.3-1).
Other small track maintenance depots will be in charge of small track maintenance, track inspection by patrol, and supplementary assistance to Binamangala track maintenance depot.
