The center to center distance between adjacent tracks of double track line is 4.5 m as provided by UBTSL. UBTSL is going to install 1 m width footh-path between the adjacent tracks. Accordingly considering the length of sleeper and thickness of ballast depth below the bottom of sleeper, the cross section of double track of Bangalore ELRT was assumed as given in Fig 6.3-1.

 

6.3.2 Track material

 

(1) Rail

Rail to be used is at least UIC 54 or equivalent (54.4k/m). The rail section of UIC54 is shown in Fig. 6.3-2. Long welded rail (LRW) produced from standard length of 15 m rail by flash butt welding and almino-thermic welding will be adopted by UBTSL. Gas pressure welding is also recommended for producing LWR. At each end of LWR, expansion joint will be installed.

 

(2) Sleeper

Monoblock prestressed concrete sleeper will be adopted. The spacing will be 1200〜1400 pieces/km by the plan of UBTSL. Appropriateness of these spacings from the view point of track strength to support 75 km/h LRV train running was examined as shown in Appendix 6.3-1. 1200〜1400 pieces per km will present no problems from the track structure strength view point. However, the economical track should be so designed as to minimize the total cost of annualized investment cost and the annual maintenance cost under the conditions that the designed track should be sufficiently strong to support a given train running. In this regard, sleeper spacing of 1200〜1400 pieces per km will provide sufficient track strength, but they should be reconfirmed from the economy of design.

Dimension of sleeper will be 2.6 m (length) x 0.235 m (thickness) x 0.25 m (width). The length of sleeper was provided by UBTSL. The width and thickness of the sleeper were not yet decided by UBTSL, accordingly they were estimated based on Indian Railways' PC sleeper.

 

(3) Fastening

Pandrole elastic fastener will be adopted with elastic pad beneath the rail. Spring constant of 100 t/m will be suitable for rail pad.

 

(4) Ballast

Crushed stone will be used with the depth below sleeper of 200mm.
