undertakings, namely the Indian Telephone Industries, the Hindustan Machine Tools and the Bharat Electric Limited. The location of these large manufacturing undertakings changed the complexion the industrial scene of Bangalore and promoted the urbanization of Bangalore.
The nineteen sixties and seventies also saw a number of industries coming up both in the public and private sector as a result of the setting up by the Sate Government to promote and assist growth of industries. In recent years, computer software industries come into Bangalore from the many countries of the world.
2.2.5 Employment
The total population of Bangalore Urban Agglomeration is composed of these three categories in terms of economic activity. They are in the following proportion;
Main workers; 29.8%
Marginal workers; 0.5%
Non-workers; 69.7%
In other words, worker participation rate against population is about 30%.
