Askar studied classical guitar at the age of 16. He shifted instruments when he became the drummer of a performing group. In 1988, he starred in "Western Dancer" and sang all the songs in the film.
After two years, Askar held his first concert in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China. In 1991, he established the Grey Wolf Band.
"Tears of the Blind", his first song, was compiled in the album Rock China 3, produced by BMG Taiwan. In 1995, Askar released in China his first MC single "Magic". In the same year, he joined the recording of Hong Kong Taichi Band's album Utopia. He also joined the recording of Numb, the album of Hong Kong progressive musician Tats Lau, and sang "Oh world, Oh human beings". He also released his second MC single "Wife".
Askar's single, "Nupula", was collected into the Asian singers Album Max Asia released by Sony Music Japan. In 1996, he released his first album Grey Wolf 1.
Askar performed at the Asian music Festival in Shirataka, Japan and held two solo concerts in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China.
