世界各国及び地域から300余名のトップクラスの選手を迎え「第2回東京世界女子空手道選手権大会」が国立代々木競技場第2体育館において盛大に開催されますことを心からお慶び申し上げます。
空手道は、今や日本古来の伝統ある武道として日本ばかりでなく、世界各国に飛躍的な普及発展を遂げ、国際的スポーツとして多くの人々に親しまれておりますが、近年、女子選手の進出活躍は目覚ましく、また競技技術も著しく向上してきておりますことは、誠に喜ばしい限りであります。
本大会に参加された皆さん、どうか空手道の真髄を目指して、日々トレーニングで鍛練された成果を十分発揮するとともに、この機会に参加選手との国際交流を深め、世界平和の担い手として、今後ますます活躍されますよう希望してやみません。
終わりに、本大会の開催に尽力されました世界空手連盟、財団法人全日本空手道連盟をはじめ関係各位に対し、深く敬意を表するとともに、大会の御成功を祈念いたしまして、お祝いの言葉といたします。
I would like to congratulate the holding of the 2nd Ladies’ International Karate Cup at the Gymnasium No.2 of the National Yoyogi Stadium with 300 top level competitors from around the world.
Karatedo as a Japanese traditional martial art has spread rapidly not only in Japan but also in the world. Karate is now very popular as an intentional sport, and I am p1eased to know that female competitors have recently made remarkable progress in their techniques.
I hope that every competitor gathered here at this tournament will fully demonstrate the results of their daily training, strengthen their mutual friendship and take an active part in the support of world peace.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the World Karate Federation, Japan Karatedo Federation and everybody concerned who worked very hard for the preparation of this tournament. I hope this tournament will be a great success.
