本日、ここに第2回東京世界女子空手道選手権大会が、国立代々木競技場第2体育館で開催されますことは、誠に慶賀すべきことであり、斯道奨励のためにも貢献するところ極めて大であると存じます。
皆様ご承知のとおり、空手道は今や世界的な武道であるとともに健全なスポーツとして国の内外を問わず多くの人々の愛好され、ますます普及発展を遂げております。
特に近年、女子選手の進出活動は目覚ましく、各地で行われている大会にも大変な人気を集め、また技術的にも大変な進歩を遂げております。
本大会は、世界各国・各地域からトップレベルの選手が、日頃鍛えた技を十分に発揮して、爽やかな競技態度と華麗な技を披露し、観客並びに我々国民に喜びと感動を与えてくれるものと信じております。
選手の皆さんも、この燦然と輝く伝統あるスポーツ「空手道」を通じて思い出に残る素晴らしい大会とされんことを、さらにお互いが友情を深め合い、国際交流・親善の旗手となられますよう願ってやみません。
おわりにのぞみ、本大会開催にご尽力頂いた世界空手連盟並びに空手道関係者の皆様に深く感謝の意を表し、あわせて観客の皆様のますますのご多幸、ご繁栄を祈念申し上げ私の挨拶といたします。
It is indeed a great pleasure to have the 2nd Ladies' International Karate Cup at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo.
As you already know， Karate is now very popular and has been developed all over the、world not only a Martial Art，but also as a sound sport. Especially，in recent years，female athletes have made remarkable progress in their technique and appeal to the public favour at the tournaments in various places.
I believe that top level athletes gathered here from all over the world will successfully demonstrate the techniques which they acquired through their daily training in this tournament，and that their sportsmanship and splendid skills will give gratificaton and excitement to all the spectators and to our nation.
I hope this tournament will be a memorable event also to the athletes, that they will be able to strengthen their friendship and each one of them will be an ensign of the international amity in the future.
In conclusion，I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the World Karate Federation and everybody concerned for their efforts to make this tournament such a success，and, wish all of you much happiness and prosperity.
