Myanmar Railways has also a fleet of 3.852 Nos. freight wagons at present. Out of these
wagons. 90.5% are available for use and the rest 9.5% are under repair & awaiting
repair. Life of he freitht wagons is 40 years and out of these over age coaches 2209 Nos
of wagons are now using due to insufficient fleet. In the year 2000, Myanmar Railways has
to scrap 1620 Nos. of wagons which shall reach an expire life of (40) years. The total
requirement in the next five years will be around 1980 Nos. of wagons. About 396 Nos. of
wagons must be reinforced every year for the freight traffic. At the same time freight
transport will increase 1.2 Million Tons according to the transport forecast. So Myanmar
Railways has to reinforce more wagons to meet the traffic requirement. Age group of these
