9) TRAINING OF TRAINERS

These courses have become so popular that every district and fishing community is demanding for it. It is therefore impossible for lecturers of the Academy alone to handle them. The RMA has therefore embarked on the training of Trainers.

Few candidates who excel very well in each course group, are selected and green additional training in the Academy and sent back as instructors to their community to continue with the training.

The ministry of Agriculture also have few training schools in certain major Inland and coastal ports, these instructors are now being trained by the RMA to update their knowledge and are returning back to their schools, much more equipped to train their students. RMA examines the candidates and successful students are issued with certificates Participating countries have also expressed great interest in the programme and are also going to send instructors for training very soon.

CONCLUSION

The Regional Maritime Academy Accra for the past three decades have put more emphasis on the training of deep seafarers but now in order to have a direct impact on our community have started casting her nets wide to cover other aspects of training including the training of personnel manning its inland watercraft. Safety of the crew, the boats and protection of the marine environment is very vital and RMA is determined to bring this training not only to deep seafarers but also to the doorstep of our local community.
