The Maritime Police Science programme is a relatively new curriculum
which was opened in 1994. It includes the theoretical and practical education necessary to
contribute to the Korean merchant fleet and maritime police power. In addition to the
nautical science and marine engineering, the purpose of this curriculum is to provide
students with more theory and practice on maritime police administration and maritime law
together with marine environment proctection.
The Department consists of 2 elective major courses - Navigation Course
and Marine Engineering Course. At the end of the first year students have to select a
elective major course of study.
With the common core basic subjects of 32 credits and the maritime
police and administration related subjects of 40 credits, the Navigation Course comprises
Core Major subjects for Licence of 83 credits, the Marine Engineering Course of 85
credits. The Maritime Police Science programme, because of its demanding academic
schedule, is not offering many free electives, as shown in Table 4.
