This common core curriculum consists of non major-related subjects that
all students in the College of Maritime Sciences have to take. The subjects students have
to follow is a little bit different from every other major. The following is the common
core curriculum in the first year:

(2) Major Programmes
Students select their major programme of study from three divisions and
one department when they enter the University:
A. Maritime Transportation Science (Division) : It is a programme
combining nautical science and maritime management science and information engineering,
offering 2 elective major courses - a Maritime Management Science Course and a Maritime
Information Engineering Course - to develop successful shipboard officers and leaders in
the maritime industry. Moreover, it also provides a well programmed regimental training
system to furnish students with outstanding leadership and a cooperative personality which
are indispensable to successful professionals in the maritime field.
B. Marine Engineering (Division) : It provides education on a wide
variety of subjects necessary for the economical operation and maintenance of modern
automated marine engines and machineries, mainly focusing on shipboard engineering
operations. It offers 4 elective major courses such as Marine Engineering, Marine
Mechanical Engineering, Marine Electro-mechanical Engineering, and Marine Refrigeration
Engineering.
C. Ship Operation Systems Engineering (Division) It is a marine
transportation programme enhanced with marine engineering studies, combining marine
engineering and marine transportation studies for licencing in both specialties. It
consists of two elective major courses, Nautical Science Systems Engineering and Engine
Systems Engineering, among which students can select one of the advanced courses in
addition to the basic integrated course. The graduates can get a dual licence for both
deck and engineer officer, and, at the same time, can get either competency for deck
officer or engineer officer according to their advanced course.
