- The usage of simulators and computers to help students in order to gain experience of navigation and engineering even Inside the classroom.

- The problems in establishing the MET systems to educate dual - functional seafarers in Vietnam.

- The Uncertainties about later employment on different types of ships.

- The problems concerning the unemployed due to the very slow development of the national fleet.

- The lack of international standards and harmonization.

Moreover, it is hoped that the international shipping communities shall also have similar ideas as those mentioned above.

 

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

 

The paper has been developed by two authors who are very much interested in reforming of the maritime education and training system in Vietnam, in order to educate the country seafarers to meet the international standard. The paper will be presented at 9th International Conference on Maritime Education and Training at Kobe, Japan.

Firstly, the authors would like to express their gratitudes to the Rector of Vietnam Maritime University who always encourages the authors and has contributed very valuable opinions to the paper.
