T.S. Seiun Maru

The T.S. Seiun Maru, a 5900-gross-ton training ship with 180 cadets, will be completed in October 1997. She is scheduled to be used for sea training not only of Japanese cadets but also of trainees from developing countries on the basis of Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA). The Institute wishes that as many countries as possible will be able to share the merits by making use of training ships in the future to attain the original purpose of the STCW-95.

 

3.2.4 Marine Technical College (MTC)

MTC is the sole government-run institute to educate seafarers, who have previously boarded vessels. Administrated by MOT the college is in Ashiya. MTC has run a unique international cooperation programme since 1990.

International Cooperation programme

Senior course

MTC took over the international ship operation course from JICA Okinawa Centre in 1992. The course was initially provided for the upgrading programme of the third grade for trainees from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands
