* the establishment of an Advisory Council for all core courses comprising representatives from a wide cross section of the industry and government agencies

 

* regular shipboard attachment for faculty members

 

Additionally, the Academy holds regular discussions with the authorities and industry towards improving courses and training programmes. As an example there are consultations and discussions with the Marine Department on curriculum and syllabus contents. Several views have been expressed and recommendations made. The Academy also maintains close liaison with the industry through regular meetings with sponsors where feedback on students' performance is obtained.

 

One of. the aspects observed through these initiatives is the need for greater focus on safety, environment, economics and management.

 

In tandem with all of the above actions ALAM is implementing the 'Total Education and Training' (TET) concept which reviews the entire philosophy, approach, system and structure of MET. The MET approach outlined below reflects not only the underlying philosophy but also the necessary changes that have been and will be introduced as an ongoing effort to keep abreast of changing technology and shipboard operations as well as the changes in manning levels.
