In the case of conventional question formats, when we have four
questions (the above example), marks distribution - according to the four groups) will be:
33-24-23-20 assuming that the total grade for the course is 100 marks.
However, in the case of multiple -choice questions (assuming that the
total grade is 100 marks) when we have 50 questions, the question grade weight will be
equal: 2 marks for each.
In view of the above discussion we can conclude by summing up the
concepts and procedures followed while handling the course of: 'Terrestrial Navigation'
for Second Mate and/or Officer in charge of navigational watch-keeping in Table (5)
Study and analysis samples of current examination systems - Fig. (1):
・In some countries in an attempt to find out their compatibility and
adeptness to meet the requirements of the IMO. The Study focused on three countries. By
studying the three exam papers, we generally observe lack of similarity as well as obvious
discrepancies in the level of difficulty.
・The maritime system of examination needs -more than ever- an
international commitment to offer a unified syllabus which aims at meeting the minimum
requirements. Within this framework, the IMO model courses can be considered the basis for
unification; and consequently examinations can become -more or less- of the same level.
・There is an urgent need to revise the current available question
data banks, in view of the examination systems analysis, and accordingly to reclassify
such questions and update them. Important factors should be considered during the process
of revision
