ABSTRACT
The international focus on safety and pollution prevention is becoming
sharper, which gives more stringent demands of the maritime transportation industry. The
Norwegian initiative for Improve Competitiveness through development of new operating
concepts and information systems in shipping companies in close co-operation with
equipment suppliers, classification societies and authorities has been organized in a
joint research programme 1994-97. Information technology will through the projects be
applied for more efficient performance reporting, maintenance optimisation, training
systems and new classification concepts. The results will be installed and demonstrated on
board demonstrator project for Hoegh Fleet Services.
