<羅錚さんとの出会い>松下功
ESSAY about LUO Zheng, Genius Painter

1990年の「アジア作曲家連盟日本大会」の折、私は事務局長兼副実行委員長を勤め、多くの作曲家達と交流を深めることが出来ました。その音楽祭の最終演奏会で、羅忠鎗さんの「暗香」という作品が演奏されました。この作品は、中国箏とオーケストラのための作品で、大変美しく説得力のある作品でした。'90年の音楽祭には、残念ながら羅忠鎗さんは来日されませんでしたが、私はこの曲にすっかり魅了され、以来何度か彼と手紙のやり取りをしていました。1992年の新星日本交響楽団主催「我が隣人たちの音楽」でも、この作品を企画に取り入れ、是非日本に来てほしいとお誘いしましたが、なかなか実現の運びとはなりませんでした。何時か彼と会いたいと思っていましたが、その機会は1996年に突然にやってきました。その年の11月6日に、私のオーケストラ作品の演奏会が北京で開かれ、初めて彼の地を訪れることとなりました。初めての北京、演奏会は大成功でしたし、観光も食事も楽しみ、私には忘れられない出来事ばかりでした。中でも、羅錚さんと出会えたことは、この旅行の最大なる思い出です。彼は、羅忠鎔さんのご子息で、今最も注目されている天才画家です。羅忠鎔さんは「私の息子と会ってほしい」と言って、私たち一行を家に暖かく招いて下さいました。
1965年生まれの羅鐸さんは、生後10ヶ月の時にダウン症と診断されました。そして、27歳のある日、突然に絵を書き始めたそうで丸最初はつたない絵でしたが、見る見るうちにその才能を現し、色彩感豊かな絵を描き始めました。ある日「お父さん、音楽を絵にしてもいいの?」と、言ったそうです。羅忠鎔さんは、息子の暖かい手を握り締めながら「そうだよ。音楽を絵にしていいんだよ。おまえが好きな曲をどんどん描いてごらん!」と答えました。以来、ドビッシーの交響詩「海」、ストラヴィンスキーの「春の祭典」、マーラーの「交響曲第5番」、父・羅忠鎔さんの作品等々、いくつもの音楽をテーマとする絵を描き始めました。そして、色彩は益々豊かになり、一躍北京で注目される存在となりました。決して広いとはいえない彼らの家の室内に、絵は無造作に置かれています。羅忠鎔さんは「錚の絵を買いたいという人は多くいます。売ればお金も入るし、錚に広い部屋で思う存分絵を書かせて上げられるけど、これは売らないのです。これらの絵は、すべて神様からの贈り物なのです。こういう子にもこんな才能があることを世の中の人に知ってもらうために、多くの人に見てもらいたいのです。」私はこの時、感動で涙が止まりませんでした。"何時か日本に招待したい"そう思いながら数年が経ってしまいました。そして、やっとその機会がやって来たのです。「アジア音楽週間2000in横浜」の実行委員長を勤めることになった私は、直ちに彼の絵をこの音楽祭で取り上げることを提案しました。
今年の1月、寒さ厳しい北京の羅一家を再訪しました。今日の指揮者で羅一家とも親しい葉聰さんと共に、20点の絵を選び、同時に演奏会の打ち合せを行って来ました。羅さん一家が、この音楽祭で多くの人々と交流を持ち、沢山の素晴らしい思い出を持って帰られることが私の願いです。
本音楽祭では、羅錚さんが音楽をテーマにして描いた作品の展覧会も開き、そのテーマとなった音楽も演奏しますしドビソシーの交響詩「海」は、北斎の版画《富嶽三十六景》より「神奈川沖波裏」の絵にインスピレーションを得て作曲した作品です。羅錚さんは、交響詩「海」を聞いて心を動かされ一枚の絵を描きました。そして、羅忠鎔さんは「羅錚の絵の意味」という作品を、この日のために作曲してくれました。まさに音楽と絵の融合がここに生まれ、21世紀の子どもたちへ、力強い《愛》のメッセージが贈られることでしょう。
私は、羅錚さんの手の温もりと、あのやさしい瞳の中に真実の心を見出しながら、このメッセージを受けとめたいと思います。
At 1990's "Asian Composers League in Japan", I serviced as the head official-deputy chairman of the executive committee and was able to exchange with many composers. This festival's last performance was LUO Zhongrong; The Faint Fragrance. This piece was written Chinese Koto(Zheng) and orchestra, and splendidly beautiful with persuasion. To my regret, LUO Zhongrong had not came to this festival in 1990, but I was so fascinated by his work. I had taken contact with him on letters a few times. I had also adopted this piece in "Our Neighbor's Music" sponsored by Japan Shinsei Symphony Orchestra in 1992. Although I had invited him to Japan, this did not materialize easily, I had wished to meet him the whole time, and the opportunity suddenly came in 1996. There was a concert of my orchestra works in Beijing on November 6th the same year, and so I had visited there for the first time. My first time in Beijing, the great success of the concert, the enjoyable sightseeing and food, everything turned out memorable for mc. Especially, to have met LUO Zheng was the greatest memory of the trip. He is LUO Zhongrong's son, and a gifted painter who is now most noteworthy. LUO Zhongrong had said, "Please meet my son" and warmly invited us to their home.
LUO Zheng was born in 1965 and diagnosed as Down's syndrome at 10 months old. It was the age of 27 when he suddenly started to paint. At first it was awkward, but soon showed his talent, and his paintings became richly colorful. One day he had asked, "Father, may I turn music into a picture?" LUO Zhongrong took his son's warm hand into hrs and answered, "Sure you can Paint pictures of your favorite music." From then on, he had painted many pictures that have music as its theme; Debussy: "La mer"3 Esquisses symphoniques, Stravinsky: La sacre du printemps, Mahler: Symphony no5, and his father, LUO Zhongrong's works etc. His paintings had become more and more colorful, and had caught the attention of Beijing at a bound. The paintings are simply kept in a room of their compact home. LUO Zhongrong says, "There are many people who want to buy Zheng's paintings. We can sell them and make Zheng a larger room so he can paint as much as he likes, but we can't. These paintings are all sent from God. I want many people to look at these so they will know, that people like my son can also be gifted. "I was so touched by his words, I could not hold my tears back. "I want to invite them to Japan someday." A few years had past since I strongly felt this way. And at last, the day had come. I had become the chairman of the executive committee of Asian Music Week 2000 in Yokohama and suggested right away adopting his paintings.
This January during the severe coldness, I visited the LUO's again in Beijing. I chose 20 pieces with YEH Tsung, today's conductor and who is close to the LUO's, and also made arrangement of the concert. I deeply wish that the LUO's exchange with many people at this festival, and hope they will be full with wonderful memories to take home with.
At this festival, there will be an exhibition of LUO Zheng's paintings that were written with music themes, and the music will be performed. Debussy: "La mer"3 Esquisses symphoniques was composed from the inspiration he caught from "the waves off coast of Kanagawa" out of Hokusai's Woodblock Prints"36 views of Mt. Fuji". LUO Zheng moved by Debussy: "La mer"3 Esquisses symphoniques drew a painting. And LUO Zhongrong has composed: LUO Zhong's painting's meaning, for today. We are on the point of harmonizing pictorial art with music, which will send a strong "Love" message to the children of 21st century.
I will catch the message, feeling the true heart in LUO Zhong's warm hand and the gentle eyes of his.
