RE: TOP LEVEL MEETING OF FIVE COAST GUARD AGENCIES IN NORTHWEST PACIFIC REGION
Dear Admiral Loy,
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) will be hosting the Top Level Meeting of Five Coast Guard Agencies in Northwest Pacific Region. This meeting will be held in Tokyo from 19th to 22nd December 2000, in cooperation with the Nippon Foundation.
On behalf of JCG, I would like to cordially invite you to this meeting, together with the Commissioner, Korea National Maritime Police Agency, the Commandant, Russian Federation Federal Border Service and the Commandant, United States Coast Guard.
This meeting aims at enhancing our mutual understanding and cooperation through unreserved exchange of views on how to further cooperate and coordinate among the tops of the five coast guard agencies in the Northwest Pacific region toward the 21st century. I strongly believe that such cooperation and coordination are indispensable in order to cope with transnational crimes such as illicit trafficking of drugs and firearms, illegal migrants and piracy. It will also contribute to securing safety of life and navigation at sea and to protect the marine environment.
