Deck Units

Daikin New Deck Unit, Gentle for the Environment

1. Environment-friendly Daikin's Marine Equipment

In advanced countries, programs for the protection of the ozone layer and the prevention of global warming have been formulated, and initiatives to conserve the global environment are well in progress.

Having already acquired ISO 14001 authorization for all its domestic factories and main production centers overseas, Daikin Industries, Ltd. is engaged in environment-conscious business activities worldwide.

To comply with the provisions of the Montreal Protocol against the production of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)(*1), commonly known as alternatives to chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), Daikin is scheduled to complete its preparations for the supply of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)(*2) adapted lineup of main products by 2004, and has been already introducing HFC versions of some models since early 1998.

On the other hand, ship machinery suppliers in major European countries are already subject to prohibit the use of HCFC machines from 2000 onward. With a view to promoting environmental conservation, Daikin has adapted for marine use its HFC technology, and is scheduled to complete the development of HFC versions of its main products by the end of 2000.

The company recently developed Deck Units emphasizing easy maintenance and usage on top of environmental friendliness. Some of their significant features are outlined below.

2. Features of the New Daikin Deck Units

(1) Early to adopt the new alternative fluorocarbon refrigerant HFC-407C, the standard choice in Japan for use in packaged air conditioners.

(2) A self-contained packaged structure consuming less refrigerant, fully compliant with comming control on possible global warming by HFC refrigerants.

(3) Low vibration and low running noise realized by the use of a newly developed hermetic scroll compressor. Will create no problem even if installed in the living accommodations.

(4) The installation space on the accommodations is minimized. One of the most compact and lightest weight designs for a product of this kind.

(5) Equipped with medium to high pressure fans, matching duct systems aboard merchant ships, as standard items.

(6) Uses a multiple hermetic scroll compressor system with a designed service life of 40,000 hours, achieving labor saving in on-board maintenance and ranked among the top in energy efficiency for such products. Can continue operation even in case of failure of any of the multiple compressors.

3. Standard specifications are stated in Table 1.

4. Optional specifications for modifications are stated in Table 2.

R22 versions are also produced as another series.

5. Global Servicing Network

Daikin has a worldwide service network, comprising main bases where any failure can be quickly and adequately addressed.

(*1) Destruction of the ozone layer is comparatively less with HCFC because it contains hydrogen in addition to chloride.

(*2) A new Chloride-free, hydrogen-containing alternative compound which does not destroy the ozone layer.
