"The Young Leaders Forum on the Challenges of the 21st Century," held on August 27, 1993, in Beijing, was SYLFF's first international forum. In attendance were more than 100 SYLFF fellows and a similar number of administrators from the then 50 SYLFF-endowed institutions in 35 nations. The Sasakawa Peace Foundation administered SYLFF until 1997, when administrative responsibility passed to the newly established Global Foundation for Research and Scholarship-since renamed The Tokyo Foundation.
