A few minutes of facts
EMSA will provide technical and scientific advice to Member States and the Commission in the fields of:
・Marine Safety
・Prevention of pollution
・Maritime Security (focused on ship-related aspects)
・Response to pollution by ships
EMSA has three primary objectives:
・Monitoring legislation, its implementation and evaluating the effectiveness of the measures in place.
・Technical cooperation and development.
・Operational duties, in particular in the field of pollution response.

EMSA will:
・Work very closely with Member States. It will respond to their specific requests in relation to the practical implementation of Community legislation, such as the recently adopted directive on traffic monitoring, and may organise appropriate training activities.
・Facilitate cooperation between the Member States and disseminate best practices in the Community.
・Also play a positive role in the process of European Union enlargement, by assisting the new Member States in the implementation of Community legislation in the maritime field.
