4.3 Influence of ship-bank distance y/B

To study the influence of ship-bank distance η in the mathematical model, comparisons are made between the predicted and the measured (SSPA's and Vantorre's [6]) CY and CN as functions of η in Fig.8 respective Fig.9. The negative η means that the bank is located on the port side of the vessel. These plots show a well-understood relation that CY and CN are proportional to η, however not necessarily in a linear manner. It is seen that the agreement between the predicted and the measured data by SSPA is generally satisfactory, but there are some difference between the predicted and the measured data by Vantorre.

4.4 Influence of flooded bank's water-depth σ1

The influence of σ1 on CY and CN are illustrated in Fig.10 and Fig.11, where both experimental results and those predicted by the models are compared. As shown in the figures, the correlation between prediction and measurement is not very good, especially for CN. Compared with the available data for vertical banks, there is too few data available for flooded banks. The model for flooded banks is therefore considered as not accurate enough.

4.5 Influence of sloping banks

To check the model for sloping banks, comparisons are made with the measurement data from [2][10], as depicted in Fig.12 for the total sway force coefficient Cy and in Fig.13 for the total yaw moment coefficient CN respectively.
