BASIC DATA - PORT OF MAB TA PHUT
1. GENERAL
The Port of Mab Ta Phut is located at 12°40' N 101°10' E in the province of Rayong, situated on the Gulf of Thailand approximately midway between Sattahip to the west and Ko Samet Island to the east. The port layout is attached.

The primary purpose of Mab Ta Phut Port is to serve the local petrochemical complex, and, in future, other industrial developments in the area.

The port effectively faces open sea to the south. Port access is via an entrance channel 125 m wide, depth - 10.5 m CD. The port is protected against wave penetration by a breakwater, approximately 1.5 km long, extending to the - 5 m CD contour.

2. BERTH FACILITIES
Two berths for bulk liquid cargoes, comprising central platforms and separate dolphins.

One 330 m long multi-purpose berth for agricultural and mineral bulk cargoes.

 A harbour craft wharf, length 135 m, waterdepth 5 m.

3. PORT EQUIPMENT
The multi-purpose berth is equipped as follows:

40-Tons Quayside Gantry Crane 2
90-Tons Mobile Crane 1
5-Tons Forklift 2
10-Tons Forklift 2
Prime Mover and Chassis 3
Tug Boat 4
Rope Boat 2
Service Boat 1
60-Tons Weigh Bridge 1

4. STORAGE AREAS
The multi-purpose berth has an open storage area of 75,000 m2, and covered storage of about 4,000 m2.

The bulk liquid berths can accommodate vessels up to 50,000 DWT, draft 12.5 m. A tankfarm comprising ultimately 43 individual tanks is being installed in phases.

5. PORT DEVELOPMENT PLAN
The present development is concentrated at the West side of the port in the lee of the breakwater. Further future development is planned at the east side of the port, including large reclamation areas for industrial development.

A tentative layout is shown in attached.

BASIC DATA - SONGKHLA PORT
1. GENERAL
Songkhla Port is located at the Gulf of Thailand at 07°13.7'N 100°34.5'E. The port layout is shawn in the figure attached.

Approach to the part is via a 120 m wide channel dredged to - 9.0 m LLW, about 4 km long. The vessel turning area is located at the western end of the berths, diameter 300 m.

The total port land area is about 9 ha.

Songkhla Port is managed by Chao Phraya Terminal International Company (CTIC) on behalf of the Thai Govemment under a 10-year contract (since 1988).

2. BERTH FACILITIES
The marginal warf is 510 m long with a 30 m apron, accommodating three berths for vessels with LOA upto 173 m. Alongside waterdepth is 10 m minimum.

Further, there is a total of 7 barge berths.

3. PORT EQUIPMENT
Quay Mobile Cranes (16 tons) 2
Front Loader 1
Forklifts (3-3.5 tons) 22
Forklifts (25 tons) 2
Tow Tractors (40 tans) 7
Tow Tractors (10 tons) 1
Tow Tractors (5 tons) 4
Harbour Tugs (2,000 H.P.) 2
Harbour Launches 1
Pilot Boats 1

4. STORAGE AREAS
The storage areas are about 10,000 m2 for general cargo and 16,000 m2 for container stacking. There is one transit shed, about 6,700 m2

5. PORT OPERATIONS
The overall berth occupancy for cargo vessels in 1994 was 40%, having declined from 54% in 1992 due to the increased rate of containerization.

Container vessels have preferential berthing resulting (in 1994) in no waiting times for container vessels.

Container stuffing activities take place at random locations around the port, in addition to the stuffing performed at the stuffing shed. This reduces the open area available for container storage, which limits the overall container throughput capacity of the port.

6. PORT HINTERLAND CONNECTIONS
Access from the part to the hinterland is via the New Coastal Highway 4083 to Nakhon Si Thammarat and via Highway 407 to Hat Yai and onward via Tinsulanonda Bridge.

7. CARGO THROUGHPUT
In 1994, cargo throughput at Songkhia Port was 600,000 tonnes, of which about half was containerized (39,000 TEUS).

8. PORT DEVELOPMENT PLAN
The port development plan for Songkhla Port is based on cargo forecasts in which the breakbulk cargo would grow to 605,000 tonnes and containerized cargo world grow to 1,344,000 tonnes (about 166,000 TEUS) by 2010.

The development master plan allows for the extension of the berthing facilities by two berths, each 180 m long, for container handling; and associated container yard development.

The First Phase Development comprises one berth plus associated equipment and yard development. The First Phase Development should enable the Songkhla Port to effectively handle the expected cargoes until after the year 2010.
